Head's Welcome

Welcome to the West Mon Community where we believe that every child has the right to Believe, Achieve and Succeed.

Our core business as a school is, of course, teaching and learning and we strive to ensure that all lessons taught at West Monmouth are both engaging and challenging. We have a fantastic team of teachers and support staff who pride themselves on ensuring that their teaching is as effective as it can possibly be; and they are constantly engaged in professional learning to ensure that their methods remain innovative and current.

Positive pupil-teacher relationships are also a key strength of our school. Pupils know that their teachers and other adults care about their progress and wellbeing, and so feel confident to speak to them about any worries or difficulties they are experiencing. These relationships are the foundation of our excellent pastoral care systems which ensure that all our learners feel supported and secure within our community.

We also believe that it is our role as a school to make our pupils the best people that they can possibly be and, to that end, we take every opportunity to instil in them our core values of honesty, respect, kindness, perseverance and pride.  These were the traditional values upon which West Mon was founded in 1898 and we think they are just as important today as they were then.

In addition, we understand at West Mon that one of the key ingredients of a happy and successful school experience is effective home-school partnerships. We pride ourselves on nurturing strong relationships with all parents and carers in pursuit of our common aim – ensuring that our young people are ‘qualified for life’ and ready to take their place as happy, successful and responsible members of society. We are a listening school and take every opportunity we can to gather the views of stakeholders and to use them to inform our development.

We have the very highest expectations of all the learners at West Monmouth in terms of both their academic achievement and their personal conduct. However, equally as important, is that everyone here feels that they belong and are valued.
